Historical and chronological analysis of the missionary activity of the Venerable Macarius of Altai (Glukharev)

The aim of the research is to study the methods of missionary and educational activities of Archimandrite Macarius (Glukharev) during his service in Altai. The author identifies the features of his interaction with the local population and Orthodox people.
Reverend Macarius of Altai (Glukharev) left a great mark both in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and in the history of the Altai Territory. Having dedicated himself to missionary work among the tribes living in Altai, he achieved great success. In creating and thinking over the concept of missionary activity, he used both the experience of his predecessors and his own practices.
The research was conducted using the method of content analysis, historiographic analysis, historical method, and deductive method. Archival materials, as well as literature, biographies of Reverend Macarius of Altai, letters, eyewitness accounts, and the works of modern scientists were analyzed. Thanks to the research, it will be possible to examine the missionary activity in Siberia in the 19th century step by step.
The author built a chronological sequence of all stages of the missionary activity of Macarius of Altai, analyzed the methods, means and features of his educational activities. Through the life of the Venerable Macarius of Altai (Glukharev), the methods and principles of preaching, communication with local peoples and tribes used in modern missionary practice are revealed.
